CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, Pa. —
Human remains that were discovered in Cranberry Township along Dutilh Road on Saturday remain unidentified.
Police said a man discovered the remains Saturday afternoon when he was walking from UPMC Passavant Cranberry on Duntilh Road.
“He was walking over to the Cranberry Mall just to get some drinks. During his walk, he found some skeletal remains,” said Sgt. Chuck Mascellino.
A forensic scientist called in from Mercyhurst College to investigate the remains said the remains look like they were a man’s remains that may have been sitting along the road for several months.
“When it’s skeletonized, it’s been there for quite a while,” said Dennis Dirkmaat from Mercyhurst College.
Dirkmaat said that the remains could have been there as far back as the summer. He also added that the bones were not buried or scattered and showed no visible signs of trauma.
The group from Mercyhurst College processed the scene, mapped out the location and collected the remains.
The remains will be transported to Mercyhurst College for further analysis in the hopes that anthropologists can find out who this person was so they can let police know.
