INDIANA COUNTY, Pa. —
Police in Indiana County filed charges against a man accused of stealing over $100,000 from a church in Clymer.
Investigators charged 37-year-old Daniel Yasick with theft after an eight month investigation.
According to the criminal complaint, the church's minister told police that Yasick kept records of the Church of the Resurrection's finances. Rev. Lawrence Manchas said when he confronted Yasick about the inconsistencies, Yasick said he had taken about $23,000 of the church's money for personal use.
After state police got involved, the Diocese of Greensburg performed an audit at the church and found that Yasick took money from the church's general fund and took thousands of dollars from the church's fundraising activities.
Yasick is also accused of using the church's credit card at a Lowe's Home Improvement store for his personal expenses. Police said he bought a faucet, thermostat, range hood, door knobs, paint and other house supplies.
Yasick is expected to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on Oct. 23.
