McKEES ROCKS, Pa. —

Police are investigating the death of a 20-year-old nursing student who was found dead in her bedroom.

Authorities are calling Ladrea Freeman’s death suspicious because they said she was a young mother who stayed away from trouble.

According to police, Freeman, 20, was found dead Thursday morning inside her McKees Rocks apartment she shared with her boyfriend and their 1-year-old daughter.

Freeman’s boyfriend, Tariq Mahdi, told investigators Freeman went into the bedroom about midnight to study for an exam she had on Thursday. Mahdi said he woke up about 1:30 a.m. to the sound of his daughter’s cries and when he went into to check on Freeman she was unresponsive and not breathing.

Police and paramedics arrived within minutes to perform CPR, but Freeman was pronounced dead at 3 a.m.

Allegheny County detectives said Freeman didn’t appear to have been assaulted, and there were no obvious signs of trauma. However, police aren’t ruling out foul play as a cause of death.

Freeman’s family said something isn’t right and they think somebody knows what happened to her. They described Freeman as a healthy woman who loved life and her daughter. They also said she didn’t use drugs or drink alcohol.

The medical examiner’s office said Freeman’s official cause of death is pending results of toxicology testing.
