Kidnapping threat places Perryopolis elementary school on lockdown

PERRYOPOLIS, Pa. —

An elementary school in the Frazier School District was placed on lockdown Wednesday because of a kidnapping threat.

Officials said a mother called into Perry Elementary School and said someone left her a voicemail threatening to kidnap her child.

The girl, a kindergartener, was specifically threatened. Officials said the voicemail said it could happen before, during or after school.

Superintendent Kenneth Meadows said the school was immediately placed on lockdown. The lockdown was eventually lifted around 2 p.m.

“We wanted to take every precautionary measure to make sure we had a safe environment and that’s why we did what we did. At this point we understand there is a resolution to this event with the Belle Vernon State Police,” Meadows said.

Belle Vernon State Police said they’re investigating the incident and have not made an arrest.
