JOHNSTON COUNTY, N.C. —

A North Carolina Klu Klux Klan leader will spend the next 15 years behind bars.

Charles Barefoot Jr. was convicted for plotting to kill the Johnston County sheriff.

Court documents said Barefoot began building pipe bombs when the sheriff would not let his group participate in a parade.

Barefoot told another Klansman that he planned to plant a bomb at the sheriff’s office, officials said.

However, there was no evidence the plot was ever attempted.
