A woman narrowly avoided injury when her car was crushed by a light pole Monday morning near the Duquesne University campus.
Channel 11’s Alan Jennings reported that a tractor-trailer got caught on some wires, causing the pole to fall to the ground at the intersection of Forbes Avenue and Chatham Square.
“They had a detour coming off the road here that really isn’t tractor-trailer friendly, so the result is a fallen pole, I guess,” driver Barry Weems said.
Cyesha Gale was driving her Chevy sedan when the pole came crashing down onto it. She told Jennings that for a moment, she thought she wouldn’t survive.
“I was mortified. I’m still shaking and I’m still scared,” Gale said. “I was terrified and I was ducking in the car. I thank the lord and thank God that I’m OK.”
Gale said it’s a good thing her sun roof was closed at the time.
“I probably would be dead if I was in a convertible,” Gale said. “I would have been smashed.”
Gale said she feared she could be shocked, so she stayed in her car until emergency crews arrived.
Traffic was delayed in the area while crews removed the pole from the car and cleared the scene.
