Mail delivery in a Chartiers neighborhood has been temporarily stopped after a mailman was attacked by two dogs.
The attack happened Tuesday when two pit bulls escaped from a fenced-in yard on Ellopia Street.
A mailman was bitten on the neck, legs and thigh.
“It's a bad accident, an extremely bad accident, like a horrifying accident,” said Richard Love, the owner of the dogs. “I don't want anyone to think I'm a bad person. My heart goes out to that, the mailman, and I apologized to the workers. I don't want any trouble.”
Love has been cited because the dogs, which have been placed in quarantine for 10 days, did not have current rabies vaccinations.
The mailman is expected to recover from his injuries.
Mail delivery in the area will resume after the quarantine is lifted. In the meantime, residents are left to pick up their mail at an area post office.
“I'm very disappointed because I have mail coming in here, and I have letters and bills to pay and send out. I have to go to the post office in McKees Rocks or out in Crafton,” said James Watkins. "They should deliver to everybody's house on the street but his, until he gets rid of the dogs.”
