A 66-year-old man was killed in a crash on Route 22 in Westmoreland County late Wednesday night and officials said family members witnessed the deadly accident.
According to the Westmoreland County coroner’s office, Francis G. Cossick, of Camp Hill, was traveling east on the roadway, toward Harrisburg, when another driver hit the victim’s vehicle from behind around 10:30 p.m.
Authorities said Cossick died immediately.
Officials said Cossick’s wife and son were traveling in a car in front of him and saw the accident happen in their rear-view mirror.
Police said the other driver involved was speeding and was taken into custody for questioning. He was released Thursday morning and so far no charges have been filed.
The district attorney’s office said it could be weeks before authorities determine the exact cause of the crash and if charges will be filed.
Detectives said charges are still possible as they continue to investigate.
