CARRICK, Pa. —
A White Oak man was arrested Monday night accused of raping a teenage girl in a Carrick cemetery.
According to the criminal complaint, Mark Mason, 39, began talking to the girl about 10 p.m. Monday as she was walking home. He then led her to St. George’s St. John’s cemetery a few blocks away.
The complaint said Mason began inappropriately rubbing the girl and eventually raped her.
According to police, the teen said she resisted at the beginning and told him she was only 15, but Mason said age didn’t matter.
Authorities said once the teen was able to get away, she calmly stole Mason’s wallet and police arrested him a short time later. Officers said they found Mason sleeping in the cemetery.
Investigators said Mason has been arrested and convicted previously for burglary and theft, but not for any sex crimes.
Carrick residents like Quiana Cuff said the alleged attack is surprising.
“That’s ridiculous. I’m shocked,” Cuff said. “I catch this bus day and night and I’d never expect something like this to happen, especially to a little girl. That’s sad.”
Mason is facing charges of aggravated indecent assault and rape.
