Police in Vandergrift arrested an Allegheny Township man Monday night accused of trying to drown a 4-year-old boy by throwing him into a backyard swimming pool.
Edward Wisniewski, 29, is facing charges of attempted homicide, recklessly endangering another person, endangering the welfare of a child, simple assault, terroristic threats and intimidation of witnesses.
According to police, Wisniewski was in his ex-girlfriend Missy Bailey’s back yard of her Emerson Street home Monday at about 8 p.m. During an argument with Bailey, police say Wisniewski beat, shoved and choked her.
“He pushed me, choked me and then I ran up this way to try and leave to get my son and then he threw me down,” Bailey said.
Bailey told Channel 11 News her son yelled at Wisniewski to stop when he hit her and that upset him.
Wisniewski then picked up the boy by the head and allegedly threw the child into the four-foot-deep pool.
“My son was like, ‘Don’t touch my mommy,’ and he said a bad word. Then he picked up my son and said, ‘Don’t ever call me that again, my dad was murdered when I was nine,’” Bailey said. “Then he threw him in the pool.”
Bailey said her son doesn’t know how to swim and when she tried to get him out, Wisniewski stopped her.
At some point, Wisniewski pulled the boy from the water and told Bailey she should be glad he did, police said.
“He was like, ‘You’re lucky I even saved him. I was going to let him drown,’” Bailey said.
Police responded to the scene and took Wisniewski into custody.
