HARMONY, N.C. —
In the wake of the storm, crews thought they had a rescue underway in Harmony.
A huge tree fell on a house and no one could find the homeowner. After relatives showed up banging on the door, David Rankin came out. He slept through the whole thing. "I work third shift. I stayed up cutting grass, then stayed up late," Rankin said. James Estes said the wind and rain rolled up quickly. "It was pretty scary," he said. "You could hear it coming. It woke me up, started cracking and popping. Wind was blowing all around my house every which way." Damage could be seen along Highway 901 including debris from flooding, limbs and leaves flung across the roadway and a trampoline flipped and flattened. Next comes the cleanup, which families have gotten used to after weeks of rain. "Call the insurance, get it fixed, move on," Rankin said.
