Several people attending a mass service on Sunday jumped into action when a 90-year-old woman said her purse was stolen.
The incident happened at the Most Holy Name of Jesus Church in Troy Hill, police said.
Michael Chernosky said he became suspicious when he noticed the man moving around in the pew. Chernosky and other members of the church said they chased the man down and didn't let him go until police arrived.
"I don’t know if he bit my hand or if it's from the struggle holding him down to the ground, but I wasn't letting him up," Chernosky said.
According to other church members, the man admitted to stealing the woman's purse because he has a heroin addiction.
