Morning storms, lightning move through area damaging homes, property

PITTSBURGH —

Storms that moved through many areas Thursday morning caused traffic to back up along the Parkways and many other roads.

In Adams Township, Butler County, a home on White Oak Place was damaged when lightning struck it.

Channel 11 News was there as emergency workers arrived. No serious damage was done to the outside of the home, but power was disabled. No one was hurt.

More lightning struck a tree and damaged a home in Banksville.

Bob Malloy was walking out of his Rose Garden Road home when he said he saw a tree in his front yard split apart and send debris everywhere.

“This was just what I wanted for a Thursday,” Malloy said. “It woke everyone up, but at least we’re unscathed by it.”

Malloy said the current from the bolt of lightning traveled into his home and knocked a light switch off the wall.

Emergency crews have since checked Malloy’s house and deemed it safe.

Channel 11 meteorologist Kevin Benson said Thursday will be warm and humid with a slight chance of showers and storms this afternoon.

Highs will jump back into the mid-80s.
