A Pittsburgh motorcycle officer was injured Thursday evening in a collision with a sport utility vehicle on Penn Avenue in North Point Breeze, not far from the site of two recent fatal bicycle accidents.
The officer, who was not identified, was conscious and alert when he was taken to UPMC Mercy, Uptown, with shoulder injuries and abrasions suffered in the crash at 6:48 p.m., city paramedics told emergency dispatchers. The crash occurred near the intersection of Lexington Avenue, and police detoured inbound traffic while accident reconstruction specialists investigated.
Anthony Green, 47, of Wilkinsburg, died Wednesday of injuries suffered Tuesday night when his bicycle was struck by a SUV on Penn Avenue near the Wilkinsburg border. James Price, 46, of Homewood, died before sunrise July 25 when his bike was struck by a hit-and-run motorist on Penn Avenue near Penfield Court.
