A woman and her son, 9, are staying in a shelter after the person they were living with in New Castle was arrested for allegedly beating the boy.
Police said Destiny Robinson Smith confessed to "whooping" her nephew after he missed his bus.
Police said bruises and welts were on his face, neck, head, both arms and both legs. Some of them were severe, police said.
The boy said Smith used hangers to beat him.
“She told me to go upstairs, and I said I didn't want to get whooped no more. She started hitting me and punching me and dragged me up the stairs. She started hitting me in my head and face and stomach in her room,” said the boy.
