It was an emotional homecoming Monday night at Pittsburgh International Airport when a local soldier returned home to meet his daughter for the first time.
Army Spc. Ryan Granstrom, of New Kensington, was deployed in Dec. 2012. He was married just five months prior to his deployment and his daughter Brianna was born in March.
Granstrom was unable to return home for her birth and had to wait until Monday to meet his now 6-month-old.
It was a moment his wife and young stepson have been waiting for.
“He was deployed and he was on a mission when she was born. He was supposed to come home, but couldn’t. I’ve texted him and I’ve called, but that’s about it,” Brandy Granstrom said.
Granstrom will be in Pittsburgh for a short time before he has to return to base in El Paso, Texas.
