Pitt announces traffic closures starting Saturday as students arrive on campus
University of Pittsburgh officials say drivers should expect heavy traffic while traveling through Oakland as students return to campus starting Saturday through Aug. 25.
In addition to heavy traffic, several streets will close temporarily:
• Bigelow Boulevard will be closed to vehicular traffic between Forbes and Fifth avenues from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday; from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday; and from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Aug. 22.
• Lothrop Street will be closed to vehicular traffic from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday through Aug. 23.
• University Place will be closed to vehicular traffic from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 22 and 23.
The Schenley Quadrangle will be closed to all vehicular traffic Saturday through Aug. 25.
Ruskin Avenue will experience heavy traffic Monday through Aug. 23, and parking meters on Ruskin Avenue will be restricted to individuals moving into Ruskin Hall.
Allequippa Street will experience heavy traffic during this period as well, and Pitt police will be stationed at the corner of Allequippa Street and University Drive C to direct traffic.
Heavy traffic around Pitt's campus is expected Wednesday afternoon when Freshman Convocation convenes at the Petersen Events Center at 3 p.m.
