WEST KITTANNING, Pa. —
Authorities in West Kittanning are looking for a man accused of robbing various businesses in the area with his wife and 4-year-old daughter.
According to police, Heath Kuntz and his wife, Jaysa Kuntz, went to Ford’s Flowers on Butler Road on July 27 and stole a cash register.
Detectives said Jaysa, who was with the couple’s daughter, distracted the clerk, Kay Riggle, while Heath cased the checkout stand.
Riggle said the couple was very nice and well-dressed. She said the couple asked her to show them some pots in the greenhouse.
“The gentleman said it was too hot in there for him, which it is very warm, so he went outside and the mother stayed inside with the little girl,” Riggle said.
Authorities said Heath then drove their car to the front door and grabbed the cash register.
Riggle said she didn’t realize what had happened until a few minutes later.
“I called my boss thinking they were playing a prank on me and she said no and to call 911,” Riggle said.
Officials said the cash register, which was valued at $1,400, contained about $400 in cash.
For the next several days, the couple brought their daughter with them while they stole from several other businesses in the Kittanning area, investigators said. At one location, a safe and 380-caliber pistol were stolen.
“Because she’s too little to know right from wrong, she can see this going on and she’s not aware of it. I just think somebody needs to step in and make sure that the little girl is taken care of,” Riggle said.
Jaysa Kuntz was arrested Tuesday and is currently in the Armstrong County Jail awaiting a preliminary hearing scheduled for Wednesday.
Police said Heath Kuntz is still at large and is considered armed and very dangerous. Heath is described as a white male, standing about 6 feet tall and weighing 190 pounds. He has brown hair and eyes.
Authorities also said Heath Kuntz is a known heroin addict. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact police immediately.
