McKEES ROCKS, Pa. —

A police officer was taken to an area hospital Monday morning after being involved in an accident along Route 65 in McKees Rocks.

According to investigators, the police cruiser was protecting a broken-down car when it was rear-ended near the McKees Rocks Bridge just before noon.

The female officer appeared to be talking after the accident, but was taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital. Her name and condition have not been released.

The driver who hit the officer’s cruiser was taken to Allegheny General Hospital. Her name and condition have not been released.

The incident remains under investigation.
