Police find explosive in Armstrong County motel during domestic dispute call

ARMSTRONG COUNTY, Pa. —

Visitors of an Armstrong County motel were evacuated Thursday night after state police said they discovered a homemade bomb inside of a room.

Troopers said they were responding to a domestic dispute between a man and his girlfriend at Staley's Motel in Kittanning when the explosive was found.

William Stover, 37, told police he made the bomb to protect himself from intruders.

Troopers said Stover admitted to having the device, which was made out of a coffee can with shrapnel and two mortars.

The state police bomb squad was able to safely remove the device from the room.

Stover is facing endangering the welfare of another person, harassment and possessing an instrument of mass destruction charges.
