CASTLE SHANNON, Pa. —

A woman with a long criminal history is facing several charges after police said she was drunk when she was involved in a hit-and-run Sunday morning in Castle Shannon.

According to police, Ashlee Kara, 29 hit Joan and Mike Barone’s car on Route 88 just after 10 a.m. Sunday and drove away.

“It felt like an earthquake hit our car. It shook so hard,” Joan Barone said. “I knew something was wrong. I knew the way she was acting wasn’t normal.”

Mike Barone said as soon as the two cars pulled over, Kara fled the scene.

“When we told her we were going to call the cops she took off,” Mike Barone said.

Investigators said Kara was at Asti’s Pharmacy on Mount Lebanon Boulevard about 30 minutes later trying to fill a prescription when pharmacists called police because she appeared to be intoxicated.

Authorities said officers arrived and found Kara, who admitted to taking methadone, nerotin and Xanax earlier in the morning, with a child in her car. Police said the child was the daughter of a friend of hers.

Kara was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, endangering the welfare of children, leaving the scene of an accident and driving on a suspended license.

“I’m angry you took advantage of my husband and I or anybody else you could have killed. You’re lucky you only did what you did,” Joan Barone said.

Kara faces a hearing in November.
