OAKMONT, Pa. —

Authorities in Oakmont are investigating a rash of recent home burglaries that police said have been occurring during the day and early evening.

Investigators said most of the break-ins have been happening in daylight or the early-evening hours throughout the Oakmont area.

According to police, the burglars have been targeting houses where no one is home, and they’re stealing items that can be sold to pawn shops like jewelry.

“They’re taking a lot of gold jewelry. It’s their M.O. to put things in pockets and get rid of it quickly,” Oakmont Police Chief Dave DiSanti said. “We’re looking at a couple of suspects who we’ve dealt with in the past.”

Channel 11’s Jodine Costanzo talked to a man who said he was at church when his home was robbed. He said the burglars stole thousands of dollars of his late mother’s jewelry.

Detectives said they have identified a few possible suspects, but no arrests have been made.

Police said they believe the burglars will attempt another break-in, and they’re warning residents to be cautious, keep their house secure and report any suspicious activity.

“If you see anything suspicious in any way, shape or form like a vehicle parked in the neighborhood that you haven’t seen before, call 911,” DiSanti said.
