NEW CASTLE, Pa. —
Police have charged a New Castle woman with child endangerment after school officials said they found four bags of marijuana in her daughter's school backpack.
Authorities said Paula Johnson, 45, knew her daughter had drugs in her bag and knew she took them to school.
Officials said the drugs were found after a classmate told a school therapist that something "bad" was in the girl's backpack on April 19.
The girl's age is not being released, but police say she attends the Brighter Visions Pinnacle Program for children grades 4 through 6 who have behavioral problems.
Police said when they called Johnson to notify her about the drugs she said, "Yeah, I know."
According to police, after the drugs were found on her, the girl herself tested positive for drugs.
“That’s just wrong. I feel for the kid,” neighbor Barb Brown said. “The mom must be on some kind of drug or not thinking straight to think this is OK.”
According to the criminal complaint, Johnson’s son told her his sister had drugs, but she didn’t do anything about it.
No drug charges have been filed in the case, but Johnson was charged with child endangerment.
