A devastated local couple was forced to bury their dog after discovering that the husky had been shot and left to die on someone's driveway.
Peggy and Russell Finif thought their beloved family pet, named Cisco, was hit by a car. After a closer inspection, however, they realized that he had been fatally shot.
"We were putting him in a blanket to bring him home and looked and saw all the trauma to his neck," Peggy said. "The gun (was) probably only a few inches from his neck when they shot him."
Cisco ran from the couple's Dravosburg yard late Sunday night. They thought he would come right home. After minutes turned to hours, they went out looking for him. That's when they found him dead on a driveway a few blocks from their home.
Cisco's senseless killing is especially tough for Russell, who is disabled. The two were best buddies.
"I'm usually in my bed watching TV, and he'd come on bed and stay with me," Russell recalled. "I'm crushed. It's so unfair."
The Finifs buried Cisco in one of his favorite spots in their yard. Now they want to find out who committed the vicious act. Some neighbors said they heard gunfire the night Cisco disappeared.
"I want him prosecuted to the fullest," Peggy said. "I can't get my dog back, but if someone is crazy enough to shoot an innocent dog, who knows, it might be a kid next time."
The Finifs have filed a police report as they pursue justice.
