Police were called to North Park Monday evening after receiving a report that someone attacked a teen while she was jogging.
Channel 11's Cara Sapida reports that the jogger was taken to Children's Hospital to be treated for a head and leg injury.
According to initial reports, the 16-year-old said she was jogging at the park when someone tried putting a bag over her head along Walters Road.
Sapida reported that a woman and her daughter who were also jogging in the park found the teen along a trail by the park's golf course just before 6 p.m.
Runners who frequent the area said they're being more cautious after hearing about the attack.
"I come here to run all the time. I did have a little hesitation," said Erica Laughlin. "I ran past a couple guys and did a little bit of a double take. I watched when vans went by, so I think it's certainly making me more cautious."
"I've been running here for well over 30 years. You have to be aware of your surroundings, who's near you, it's unfortunate it happened here," said Sue Mittermeir.
"If someone did get attacked it's a shame because so many people use this park. It's a beautiful park and people shouldn't be ruining it for others," said Erica Laughlin.
Police said they’re taking the claim very seriously and the incident remains under investigation.
