Police said they arrested a man wanted in connection with sexually assaulting a Shenango Township teen in Trumbull County, Oh.
Investigators said they arrested Todd Vocature, 52, as he was attempting to commit suicide in a reservoir on Thursday. Officers said they located Vocature because a "be on the lookout" alert was issued for his car.
According to police, Vocature lured the victim to a South Jefferson Street home in South New Castle Borough under the pretense of babysitting on Aug. 31.
After the girl arrived, police said Vocature bound the victim's hands and mouth with duct tape and sexually assaulted her.
The girl told police Vocture then let her go and told her not to tell anyone. The girl also told police Vocature told her he had fantasized about the incident for a long time and he now planned to kill himself.
Vocature, who’s been a registered sex offender for nine years, faces several charges including rape, attempted rape, statutory sexual assault, indecent assault, corruption of minors, indecent exposure, unlawful restraint and aggravated indecent assault.
A woman who owns the house Vocuture took the girl to told Channel 11 News she was helping him out because he was down on his luck.
“I let him stay here sometimes. I didn’t know anything,” the woman said.
“It’s actually scary because you think your daughter is going to babysit and it’s a sex offender,” Ray Davis, who lives nearby, said.
