PSU cheerleader still in coma, but family hopeful

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. —

The family of a Penn State cheerleader who fell five stories out of an apartment window says they are encouraged how the 19-year-old woman responded to a drug to stimulate brain activity.

Family spokesman Randy Jepson said doctors at Altoona Regional Health System were hopeful after Paige Raque (RAH-kee) stirred and opened her eyes a few times Thursday, though she's still in a coma.

Raque, of Louisville, Ky., remained in critical condition. Her brother is captain of the men's gymnastics team coached by Jepson.

Police have said Raque fell through a screen and out the fifth-floor window during a party at an off-campus apartment building Saturday night. Authorities said Thursday they were still investigating, though the fall appears to have been accidental.

A campus prayer vigil was planned Thursday night.
