Receiver: Christian Financial Management is mailing checks
A court appointed receiver says Christian Financial Management has not closed its doors and is continuing to process home healthcare workers' paychecks.
The troubled company is at the center of a class action lawsuit filed on behalf of nearly 2,000 workers after Christian Financial Management was unable to accurately process payroll on a timely basis.
“There have been problems with timesheets and with lost checks, but it appears there is sufficient money in the system to pay all authorized wages. As hard as it may be, especially at this time of year, people just have to be patient as we work through these problems,” said Robert Bernstein, the receiver.
Workers who have not received payment for past work are being advised to submit their timesheets to Christian Financial Management for payment.
“The money is there. There is no indication of fraud,” said Bernstein, managing partner of Bernstein-Burkley and the principal attorney involved. “It is a paperwork, mailing and organizational problem.”
Bernstein says approximately 1,800 payroll checks were mailed on December 6. Another batch of checks went out on the evening of December 12.
Bernstein admits there was a great deal of confusion at Christian Financial Management. He says he is in the process of appointing supervisors to organize the office, so they can continue to get out paychecks on a regular basis.
He was appointed by the court to take control of the company and bring order to the process. His first priority was helping the company transfer information to Public Partnerships LLC. The new agency will begin processing payroll on December 16.
By Monday, December 17 PPL plans to mail transfer packets to all current customers of Christian Financial. The receiver says those packets should be returned as quickly as possible to ensure payments in January.
