Rostraver Twp. Cheer Association’s treasurer accused of stealing $18K

ROSTRAVER, Pa. —

The treasurer of the Rostraver Township Cheer Association was arrested Thursday and accused of stealing almost $20,000 over a three-month period.

According to police, Lesley Manown, 42, is accused of stealing $18,686 by various means over a three-month period by writing fraudulent checks, creating fictitious bills and using the organization’s debit card to pay for personal items.

Investigators said Manown is accused of using the RTCA’s funds for a trip to Disney, home utilities, personal loan payments, meals, iTunes services and to make cash withdrawls.

Detectives said the majority of the thefts began in early June after the organization’s commissioner opened a new checking account. The commissioner gave the debit card and cash to Manown under the premise that the card was to be used to purchase a TV for a raffle.

Manown is facing charges of access device fraud, forgery, theft by failure to make required disposition of funds and theft by deception.

Police said Manown is awaiting arraignment.
