GARFIELD, Pa. —
A parked school bus caught fire Thursday morning in Garfield, and flames were so intense they melted the siding off a nearby home.
The bus was parked outside the driver’s Dearborn Street home when it caught fire about 6 a.m. Thursday.
Allison Sage told Channel 11’s Courtney Brennan that the bus was on fire for about 20 minutes, and at one point she worried for her own safety.
“It was intense, like post-apocalyptic sort of stuff,” Sage said. “I was worried about it catching the telephone pole on fire and spreading.”
The flames didn’t catch the pole on fire, but they were hot enough to melt the siding off of Regina Brown’s home.
Brown said she just moved in two weeks ago and wasn’t home at the time.
“I’m waiting for the landlord to come and look at everything and investigate exactly what happened,” Brown said.
Sage and other neighbors praised firefighters for quickly responding and preventing the blaze from spreading further.
“The firemen, I give them way more credit now,” Sage said.
No one was on the bus when the blaze began, and no injuries were reported.
