Several boats and a dock drifted down the Monongahela and Youghiogheny rivers Thursday morning, causing a scene as crews worked to corral the runaway boats.
The incident was reported at Birdies Landing in McKeesport, Channel 11’s Jennifer Tomazic reported.
Tomazic said crews spent several hours working to control the free dock and about 10 boats, which traveled about three miles.
“We want to thank you for getting our boats back. We appreciate it immensely,” boat owner Ron Shaffer said. “Mine has nothing but scratches and scrapes. But the boat in front of mine was pretty mangled.”
Dennis Betters said he helped untangle some of the boats.
“Once the boats were secure, we went down by car, got everything and drove it back,” Betters said.
Officials said the dock at Birdies Landing will likely be rebuilt, but probably not until next boating season.
