HEMPFIELD TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The body of a Hempfield Township woman who had been missing since Monday was found Friday in Latrobe.
Police said Rebecca Stahl, 37, was last seen at her home on Seton View Drive on Monday. On Friday, Stahl's body was found near Route 981 close to the Latrobe airport.
Shortly after investigators found Stahl’s body, they began searching for her husband, David, who has not been named a suspect at this time. Channel 11 News later learned David Stahl was hospitalized in Greensburg. However, authorities did not say how he was injured or how seriously.
Police said they’re looking at the case as a homicide, but they’re waiting on more details from the coroner’s report.
Investigators said they gathered an abundance of evidence over the last few days and that helped lead them to Stahl’s body. On Wednesday, state police executed several search warrants at the house Stahl shares with her husband.
“There was nothing not to love about Becky and of all people, she did not deserve this,” said the victim’s brother, Tom Anderson.
Derry Middle School, where Stahl taught, released the following statement: "The Derry Area School District family is in mourning as we have lost one of our own. Rebecca Stahl was an outstanding educator, a warm and compassionate individual and a mentor and friend to many of us. She will be sorely and deeply missed by all. Our hearts and prayers go out to her loved ones during this most difficult of times. We will provide all necessary support to our staff and students as we mourn the loss of our beloved teacher and friend."
Channel 11 News has learned that David Stahl pleaded guilty to simple assault in 2007 after his wife said he threw her down a flight of stairs, pulled her hair out and threw her into the kitchen table. At that time, the two were engaged, and Rebecca took out a protection from abuse order against him.
David Stahl was sentenced to serve nine to 23 months in jail.
More recently, in March, David Stahl received a summary citation after his wife said he shoved her and tore her sweater.
Four months before her disappearance, Rebecca Stahl asked to have the citation dropped.
