WESTMORELAND COUNTY, Pa. —
Police said they arrested one person after they found a stolen ambulance at a Westmoreland County convenience store Wednesday morning.
Officials said the Eastern Area Pre-Hospital Services ambulance was stolen around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday from a fire station on Roslyn Street.
From the time the ambulance was stolen, police said Jonathan Miracle, 19, drove it for more than an hour and stopped to ask for directions and get gas.
Ovidiu Costin told Channel 11's Courtney Brennan that Miracle crashed the ambulance into his van.
"The guy just came down the street on the one-way in the wrong direction and hit him. He just fled the scene," Costin said. "I pretty much have a car with a total loss, I can't use it."
Costin said he was slightly injured, but called police and reported the incident.
Emergency dispatchers said the ambulance was towed away from SFS Food Mart on Route 51 in Rostraver around 3 a.m.
Officers said they arrested Miracle, who was standing next to the open driver's-side door wearing "non-typical" emergency medical services clothing.
No drugs or medical equipment were missing from the ambulance when police arrested Miracle.
Miracle, who is homeless, is facing felony receiving stolen property charges. He remains in the Westmoreland County Detention Center.
