Officials at the Pittsburgh Classical Academy in the city’s West End are investigating a possible case of child abuse involving a substitute teacher.
Authorities said an 11-year-old girl claims she was grabbed and pushed by the sub after she asked to use the restroom.
“When you send your kids to school, you think they’re in good hands. You send them there to learn, not to be abused,” Lattea Banks said.
Banks told Channel 11’s Timyka Artist that her daughter, Daihzja Cobbs, came home from school on Tuesday and said she was assaulted by her substitute teacher.
“She was crying and said the substitute teachers in science grabbed her by the arm and pushed her into her chair,” Banks said.
Cobbs, whose in the sixth grade, claims the sub dragged her across the classroom.
“I asked, ‘What did he touch you for?’ and she said, ‘Because I wanted to go out and walk to the bathroom. I had to go real bad, Mom,’” Banks said.
A school district spokesperson said the case is under investigation by the District Attorney’s Office. The substitute teacher has been placed on a “no-call” list pending a full review.
