Police arrested a man Monday accused in several burglaries in the Mt. Washington area dating back to October.
Authorities said Jason Hoffman, 33, is charged in six burglaries on Norton Street and Southern Avenue in Mt. Washington from October to December.
According to the police report, Hoffman was already incarcerated at the time of his arrest on a separate burglary charge from Upper Saint Clair.
Detectives said they found several stolen items in Hoffman’s possession when he was arrested on Feb. 27 in Upper Saint Clair.
While being interviewed in police custody a few days later, Hoffman admitted to the other burglaries, investigators said.
Police said Hoffman told them he gained entry into the homes through side and rear doors, as well as windows.
“He ripped the window out and jumped in my basement. The door was wide open,” one of the victims said.
John Schiavone told Channel 11 News he was also burglarized.
“This is bolted down, so he conveniently picked up one of these boxes that had a socket set in it and unscrewed it. He didn’t rip it, he unscrewed it and set the bolts down. He only stole one of these boxes. He didn’t take them all,” Schiavone said.
Hoffman remains in the Allegheny County Jail charged with six counts of burglary and six counts of theft by unlawful taking. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 19.
