Emergency crews rushed to the scene of an accident Thursday afternoon when an SUV crashed into a home after spiraling out of control for about three blocks.
The accident was reported on Beltzhoover Avenue about 12:30 p.m.
The driver of the SUV, James Wright, told Channel 11’s Alan Jennings that another driver ran a stop sign, causing his SUV to go out of control.
“She came through the stop sign and I was coming up the main street. She shot through the stop sign, and we hit,” Wright said.
Wright wasn’t seriously injured in the crash.
Police responded and examined the damage, as well as took witness reports for their investigation.
Neighbors who live near the scene of the crash told Jennings that this was the third or fourth wreck in the area in recent days.
They said there is a detour sign that blocks a stop sign, and they think that’s contributing to the problem.
"This detour sign that we're looking at right now was on the other side of the intersection and that was a better place for it? No, because it hid the stop sign. It blocked the stop sign,” Leonard Brodner said.
Port Authority spokesman Jim Ritchie said all the detour signs were approved by the city’s traffic division.
