CHARLESTON, W. Va. —
A West Virginia teen was arrested after refusing to take off a National Rifle Association T-shirt at the request of his teacher.
The issue started last week when Jared Marcum, 14, refused to take off the shirt when his teacher asked him to.
After a trip to the principal’s office, Marcum was arrested and charges with disrupting the educational process and obstructing an officer.
Marcum said he didn’t see anything wrong with wearing the shirt, which displays an image of a high-powered rifle.
“I never thought it would go this far because I don’t see a problem with this. There shouldn’t be a problem with this,” Marcum said.
School officials told Marcum’s lawyer that his 1-day suspension was appropriate because he was being disruptive.
Prosecutors are reviewing the charges to decide if they will proceed with the case.
