ECONOMY, Pa. —
Police said they arrested a 19-year-old woman who is accused of hitting a grandfather on Tuesday in Economy and fleeing the scene.
Channel 11's Amy Marcinkiewicz reported that the teenager was texting while driving during the incident. Benny Tompkins said he was crossing the street with his 4-year-old granddaughter when he was struck.
"The car hit me at my knees. I rolled up on the windshield and over the car," Tompkins said.
According to Tompkins, he saw the driver, Becky Kirkland, looking down moments before she hit him.
Officers said they tracked down the driver, Becky Kirkland, and charged her with driving on a suspended license, texting while driving and hit-and-run.
"This is the perfect reason why you don't text and drive. I want her to know and everyone to know: don't text and drive," Tompkins said.
