Police said they're searching for a couple in a car who dragged a 75-year-old woman several feet in a drive-by purse-snatching near a Union Township convenience store.
Southwest Regional Police in Washington County said Joyce Sanders was walking home from the store in Elrama when the car sped up to her about 5:40 p.m. Monday. That's when one of the people inside the car grabbed her purse as the car sped off.
According to police, Sanders fought to hold on to the purse and suffered injuries as she was dragged face-first through some gravel before letting go. Police said a man and woman were in the car.
“A car pulled up beside her and the passenger opened the car door and grabbed her purse,” a police officer said. “They started to speed away and dragged her down the road. She actually at that point let go of the purse.”
Sanders was taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital for treatment. Police said they don't believe her injuries are life-threatening.
Authorities said they believe the suspects used Route 837 as their getaway. No information about the suspects has been released.
