Woman falls 20 feet through downtown manhole

PITTSBURGH —

A woman was rescued Friday morning after falling through a manhole in downtown Pittsburgh.

According to police, the accident happened at about 8:30 a.m. Friday on Smithfield Street.

Officials said the woman fell about 20 feet and had to be rescued by a lowered basket.

The woman’s name has not been released. She was not seriously injured.
