Work on Shadyside’s South Highland Ave. Bridge under way

PITTSBURGH —

Pittsburgh’s Public Works Department began replacing the South Highland Avenue Bridge in Shadyside on Monday.

South Highland and Ellsworth avenues will be shut down during the duration of the reconstruction.

The bridge connects motorists, cyclists and pedestrians to a busy business corridor and some people think the construction will decrease traffic to the area.

"It will be really stinky at first but then you get used to everything," said driver Mindy McHale. "They do pretty good business up there. But with that being out I'm sure people are going to be complaining,"

The cosntruction work is expected to be completed in November.
