In the letter, Gladys Zimmerman starts by thanking family members and friends for their support.
She also says the arrest of her son changed her life. She wrote that day (April 11th) will always be remembered "as the day the justice system failed us as Americans, and as a consequence an innocent man was arrested…George was charged with murder."
Critical of the coverage provided by the media, Gladys Zimmerman wrote the media and social media sentenced George Zimmerman "before and after his arrest."
"Without your constant prayer, words of comfort, and endless search for truth -- our family would not have made it this far," she wrote.
George Zimmerman would be arrested on April 11, 2012, over a month after the February 26 shooting death of the unarmed teen. He admitted to shooting Martin to death in self-defense.
Martin's death launched protests across the country and further questioned Florida's "Stand Your Ground" law.
Zimmerman is charged with second-degree murder, with the murder-trial set to start in June.
