GREENSBURG, Pa. —

A Somerset Township-area handyman will spend life in prison for the beating death of another man in July 2009.

Shawn Shaulis, 34, of Friedens, was found guilty of criminal homicide for the death of Thomas F. Williams, of Greensburg.

Police said the incident happened while Shaulis and Williams were doing work at a house owned by Williams. Shaulis is accused of fatally assaulting Williams and then hiding his body in the house on Beam Church Road.

When Williams was reported missing, police searched the house and found his body.

Based upon witness interviews, Shaulis was named as a suspect. A state trooper spotted Shaulis driving a car in Somerset Township and attempted to stop him.

Shaulis attempted to flee, first behind the wheel and then on foot, but he was apprehended and taken into custody.
