MIDLAND, Pa. —
In a unanimous vote, Midland council members approved an ordinance that prevents sex offenders from living within 500 feet of schools, child care facilities, public parks and community centers.
Megan's law does not regulate where offenders can live.
"It seemed like a smart thing for council to do. The ultimate goal is to protect the public and this is available to us and is another tool to do so," said Midland Councilman Sam Rosatone.
Midland residents are pleased.
"I think it's a fantastic move forward, to proteect our children," said Ruth Sobieski.
The ordinance applys to sex offenders who are 18 or older.
