Miner Killed In Indiana County Accident

Machinery Pinned Victim Against Mine Wall

BUFFINGTON TOWNSHIP, Pa. —

A Cambria County miner was killed in an accident at an Indiana County coal mine early Friday morning.

William Pardee, 62, of Elder Township, was pronounced dead at 5:39 a.m., according to the Indiana County Coroner.

Investigators said Pardee was trying to move a feeder machine. The machine was already in gear when Pardee started it and the machine pinned him against the mine wall.

Fellow miners brought Pardee to the surface but emergency workers were not able to save him. He had suffered extensive injuries to his chest and abdomen.

The accident happened at the Nolo Mine in Buffington Township.

An autopsy is scheduled Friday in Johnstown.
