More Job Opportunities In Pittsburgh Than Other Cities

Allegheny Co. Jobless Numbers Lower Than State's

PITTSBURGH —

The number of unemployed in Pennsylvania went up in May to 8.2 percent, but that is still much lower than the national rate of 9.4 percent.

And the news is even better for Allegheny County, where unemployment is 6.5 percent.

In surrounding counties the jobless rate ranges from 7.3 percent in Butler County to 8.1 in Westmoreland County-- all below the national numbers.

State wide manufacturing jobs are down over 10 percent, but in Pittsburgh the picture is brighter.

According to the Allegheny Conference, manufacturing is the fourth-largest industry in Pittsburgh and is being driven by high-tech companies.

And there are other numbers to be optimistic about.

The Allegheny Conference's job bank, imaginemynewjob.com, right now has almost 24,000 job listings.

And 85 percent of those are full time with almost half paying $60,000 or more a year.
