Mother Hit Jogging In Mt. Lebo Dies; Driver Charged With DUI

MT. LEBANON, Pa. —

A 36-year-old mother and her two children were struck by a car in Mount Lebanon on Monday afternoon.

Police said Lisa Styles, 36, of Mount Lebanon was jogging along Washington Road with her 1-year-old daughter and 3-year-old son in a stroller. The coroners office confirmed that Styles died on Tuesday.

Police said Benjamin Cope, 20, of Pittsburgh failed to stop properly at the intersection of Beadling Road and Washington Road and hit them. Police charged Cope with two counts of driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol.

“It is a very busy street. There have been studies done questioning whether or not to lower the speed limit on this road. There are a lot of pedestrians; a lot of things come into play with that. It is a state road and it is a main road,” said Officer Aaron Lauth of the Mount Lebanon Police Department.

Police said the children were not seriously injured but were taken to Children’s Hospital in Lawrenceville to be checked out.

Witnesses at the scene told Channel 11 News reporter Julie Fine that the driver of the vehicle collapsed in tears following the accident.

“I see a car pulled over on the side of Beadling and I saw a man collapse in the front yard,” said witness Matt Schmid.”He was crying, he had his hands on his head and I saw a woman run up with a bunch of kids under the tree and I knew there was an accident of some sort and then I noticed there was a stroller and the wheel popped off.”

Police said they are continuing to investigate and said more charges could be pending.
