MCKEESPORT, Pa. —
The crash happened along East Fifth Avenue and Hartman Street just after 6 a.m.
Authorities said a car trying to avoid the motorcycle clipped the rear, causing Cavanaugh to be thrown from his Honda motorcycle.
Witnesses told Channel 11 News that a truck wasn't able to stop in time and ran the motorcycle over after Cavanaugh was thrown from it.
One woman told Channel 11 News she could hear the accident from her bedroom.
"I heard the crash, and I heard him scream," said nearby resident Sandy George. "We immediately jumped out of bed. Accidents happen here all the time. Our first reaction is to jump up, see if everybody is OK, and call 911."
Police said Cavanaugh was wearing a helmet.
There is no word on the condition of the other driver and what, if any, charges he or she may face.
