Mount Washington Fire That Displaced 6 May Be Arson

PITTSBURGH —

Firefighters responded to a blaze that broke out early Thursday morning in Mount Washington.

Crews said six people lived in the Wyoming Street four-unit apartment building, which caught fire at about 3:15 a.m.

Fire officials said a rug caught fire on the first floor of the home and sent the fire spreading through the walls.

"We saw it on fire, the carpet in the hallway," said victim Rebecca Haddad.

"When we came out, the first thing we heard is arson, so what else are we supposed to think?" said Matthew Casarez.

The American Red Cross is providing six adults with housing.

Authorities said were also pets in the building that need a place to stay.

The fire marshal is investigating the cause of the blaze. Damage is estimated at $10,000.
