Mt. Lebanon Crossing Guard Struck By Vehicle

MT. LEBANON, Pa. —

A Mt. Lebanon crossing guard was struck and injured Wednesday morning at the intersection of Cedar Boulevard and Salem Drive.

Police said the accident happened shortly before 8 a.m. while Salvatore Sapienza was working in the area.

Sapienza, 59, of Castle Shannon, was transported to UPMC Mercy Hospital. Authorities said he was alert and conscious at the time.

Police identified the driver of the vehicle as Yvonne Webster. She was traveling south on Cedar Boulevard and, according to witnesses, failed to observe Sapienza in the intersection.

Webster will face a number of citations, including failing to give right-of-way to pedestrians in crosswalks, police said.
